Benefit Concert for Anthony Brindisi with Karen Savoca & Pete Heitzman

Please join us for this special fundraiser featuring music by Karen and Pete, refreshments, and conversation with Anthony Brindisi.

Anthony Brindisi is the Democratic candidate for the 22nd Congressional District (made up of 8 counties, including all Chenango, Cortland, Madison, Oneida, and parts of Broome, Herkimer, Oswego, and Tioga).

Anthony Brindisi has been an outspoken advocate for public schools throughout his career. He's a political reformer who was named by the Wall Street Journal as one of the five "Young Guns" in the NY State Assembly.

Brindisi is also known as a tireless supporter of the Upstate New York community that he represents. An independent voice, Brindisi doesn't care what your party line is, he has a proven record working with anyone, at any time, to get things done and bring positive change and new jobs to his community.

In the Assembly, Brindisi led and was victorious in his fights to increase educational funding to lower income school districts in the state, bolster apprenticeship programs, increase job training, and bring high tech manufacturing and economic development to the Mohawk Valley region.

Brindisi, thirty-nine years old, was born and raised in Utica where he resides with his wife and high school sweetheart Erica McGovern Brindisi, a biology professor at Mohawk Valley Community College, and their two young children, Anthony, Jr. and Lily Grace.

A live performance by Karen Savoca and Pete Heitzman will liven up the afternoon. Born in northern NJ, the daughter of a big band singer,Karen Savoca's baby diary reads "20 months, knows 6 songs." She grew up singing, dancing and harmonizing around a piano, and by the age of five she was emceeing the school play. Savoca puts her heart into a song the way a great actor throws herself into a role, charming audiences with a supple alto and a boundless range of expression. A gifted songwriter, she draws you into her world of humor and compassion, telling stories with grace and ease, as though you've been invited to her table for supper.

She first met Pete Heitzman at a jam session and immediately recognized him as an ideal musical partner. Described by an Alaskan reviewer as “the aurora borealis of guitar,” Heitzman’s transcendent playing is central to their sound. With a broad pallet of tones and textures, he paints ideal landscapes for Savoca's engaging songs. Years of leading an all-original, dance-driven band imbued the duo with the power of a larger group.

Savoca’s seventh solo release, Promise, was recorded in their 19th century church studio nestled deep in the hills of upstate NY. Promise is being lauded as her strongest collection of songs to date, hitting #1 on Alberta’s CKUA chart and #25 on the Euro/Americana Chart.

Winners of seven SAMMY Awards. Notable appearances include The Today Show, A Prairie Home Companion, Mountain Stage, Big Top Chautauqua, The Vancouver, Edmonton & Winnipeg Folk Festivals. They are also independent record producers who have scored several feature films and documentaries.
