POSTPONED - Syracuse Acoustic Guitar Project Reunion
THIS SHOW IS POSTPONED DUE TO THE PANDEMIC.
WE WILL RESCHEDULE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. STAY SAFE.
Since 2014, Syracuse has participated in the international Acoustic Guitar Project, in which a group of songwriters each write and record a song in one week on the same guitar. To date, Central New York musicians have written 35 songs for the Syracuse project, curated by Jeffrey Pepper Rodgers. In this special reunion concert, four project alumni come together to share their project songs and more of their originals, and the stories behind them.
About the performers
With a vintage voice and a chest full of hauntingly heartfelt songs, prolific storyteller Mike Powell has gone from world renowned athlete to full-time artist. His natural comfort onstage, when combined with an honest guard-down approach to performance, creates a unique experience that many have described as atomic folk.
“One of the premier singer/songwriters in music today.”—NYS Music
Andrew VanNorstrand is a musician, singer, and songwriter who has performed all over North America and beyond. His debut solo album, That We Could Find a Way to Be, focuses on the complicated intersections of love, faith, loss, and uncertainty, queerness, and the search and struggle for understanding. From the rust belt to the Blue Ridge, cold spring in New England to a summer's night in Charlottesville, Andrew blends traditional folk, old-time and country music with indie-roots-Americana.
"VanNorstrand…takes on political/social commentary as well as queer issues with his charming and moving brand of folk sounds where country, Americana, and roots rock are certainly part of the formula too."—Take Effect
Colleen Kattau is a bilingual vocalist, guitarist, and composer of songs. Her poetic originals and charismatic stage presence inspire hope and spark imagination and audience participation. She has shared the stage with legendary performers Pete Seeger, Holly Near (with whom she toured in 2012), and Tom Paxton. She’s been also a selected showcase artist at the Northeast Regional Folk Alliance and the Emerging Artist Showcase at Falcon Ridge Folk Festival.
“Ever since childhood Kattau has been imbued with a voice that haunts with its clarity and range.”—Syracuse New Times
Jeffrey Pepper Rodgers has combined his twin passions for words and music into a multifaceted career as a musician, author, and teacher. A grand prize winner of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest as well as a Sammy winner for Best Americana, he plays kinetic folk rock, combining vivid imagery and storytelling with masterful band-in-a-box guitar playing.
“Jeffrey Pepper Rodgers’ songs ring true and new. Spot-on work from an American wordsmith.”—Patty Larkin
